This is the initial link of production. The core is to complete the carton design plan according to customer requirements (including size, structure, pattern, brand elements, functional needs, etc.). It is necessary to consider both visual aesthetics and production feasibility (such as folding structure and die-cutting rationality). The deliverables usually include vector design drafts and 3D renderings, which need to be confirmed with the customer before proceeding to the next link. It is a key step determining the appearance and practicality of the finished product.

Proofing

After the design draft is confirmed, this is the link of making sample cartons, aiming to verify the implementation effect of the design plan. Proofing will simulate subsequent core processes such as printing and die-cutting to produce 1:1 physical samples. Customers can check whether the size is accurate, the pattern printing meets the standard, and the structure is firm through the samples. Mass production can only be carried out after confirmation, so as to avoid the error cost of large-scale production.

Raw Material Preparation

According to the confirmed proofing plan, purchase and prepare all kinds of materials required for production. The core materials include base paper/cardboard (such as white cardboard, gray cardboard, kraft paper, etc., and the grammage and material are selected according to the carton's purpose); auxiliary materials include ink, glue, film for lamination, hardware accessories (such as magnets, hooks), etc. This link needs to control the material quality to ensure it meets the customer's requirements for environmental protection and strength. Especially for export orders, it is necessary to meet the material standards of the target market.

Printing

It is the process of transferring the designed patterns, texts and other contents to the base paper, and is a core step determining the visual effect of the carton. Common printing methods include offset printing, flexographic printing, gravure printing, etc., which are selected according to the batch, cost and color requirements. During the printing process, it is necessary to strictly control color reproduction and overprint accuracy to ensure clear patterns, uniform colors and compliance with the customer's brand visual specifications.

Finishing Techniques & Paper Lamination

This is a value-added processing link after printing, aiming to improve the texture, durability and aesthetics of the carton.

  • Finishing Techniques: Including processes such as hot stamping (gold/silver), UV coating, embossing and debossing, which can make the pattern more layered and high-grade.
  • Paper Lamination: Cover a layer of transparent plastic film (divided into glossy film and matte film) on the surface of the printed paper. It plays the role of water resistance, scratch resistance and fading resistance, and at the same time improves the stiffness of the carton and extends its service life.

Die Cutting

It is the process of cutting the laminated/finished paper into the shape of the carton expansion drawing by using a die-cutting knife mold. The knife mold is customized according to the structure of the carton, and can complete cutting and creasing at one time (creasing is to make the subsequent folding of the carton smoother). The accuracy of die-cutting directly affects the fit of the carton after folding, and is a key process ensuring the regular structure of the carton.

Glue The Corner

For the die-cut carton expansion parts, it is necessary to apply glue and bond specific corners to form the three-dimensional frame of the carton. This step uses professional carton gluing machines to accurately apply glue to the bonding positions, and then fix it by pressure to ensure that the corners are firmly bonded without the risk of glue opening, laying the foundation for subsequent folding and forming.

These are the last two key processes before carton forming.

  • Perforation: Make holes (such as hanging holes) or tear-off dotted lines (such as easy-tear openings) at specific positions of the carton according to requirements to facilitate customer use.
  • Hardware Fitting Assembly: Install customized hardware parts (such as magnetic buckles, metal hooks, rivets, etc.) on the carton to improve the functionality and texture of the carton. It is commonly used in high-end gift boxes, storage boxes and other products.
